1800 Artist Series

1800 Tequila has a wonderful new project going on right now, they’ve commissioned 1800 artists of all styles and have come up with an artist series that displays art in a not-so-typical medium. Also if you sign upĀ  at their website you can upload your own artwork or photos and have people vote on them.

I’ve always enjoyed design on packaging, and though it wasn’t my strong subject in school, I still enjoy looking at it an admiring the differnt styles of packaging, especially when it’s designed well. I came across this blog called that has tons of very interesting packaging, be sure to check them out.

Shepard Fairey Designs Wine Labels

Shepard Fairy Wine Label

Shepard Fairy Wine Label

Kenwood Vineyards, a California winery, has been collaborating with artists since 1978 with their Artist Series wine labels, and on their 30th Anniversary they’ve commissioned Shepard Fairey to design this years label. Fairey’s “Peace Woman” adorns the wine label and is selling for $70 per bottle, MSRP. Be sure to get one if you can, as there were only 2,146 cases manufactured.

Vintage Poison Labels

InsectoDeth has a really neat collection of vintage poison labels. The above one is my favorite, but check out their site to view more.

Dr. Martens Contest

Legendary UK footwear brand is having a contest for designers to create their own Dr. Martens boots. The winners will receive a cash award, as well as their shoe going into production for a whole year. There will be two winners, one determined by the general Dr. Marten voting public, and the other by a panel of judges in the industry. The competition is stiff, but it doesn’t hurt to try. Check out the design website for more info.

New Joy Division Zune

On June 17th, Microsoft will release the Joy Division Zune to the public. A limited run of only 500 units will be available, and features the graphic from Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures album by Factory Records graphic artist, Peter Saville. The 80 gig multimedia player will come preloaded with a Joy Division documentary also titled, Unknown Pleasures. For more information check out Zune.

If Microsoft had the Ipod

The video above shows what the IPOD packaging would look like if Microsoft got it’s hands on it. I like Apple design because it’s simple and to the point, which is not always the case with Microsoft. This video was posted two and a half years ago, but it’s still very relevant to design and marketing, and quite humorous.

Airbourne and it’s Clever Marketing

This isn’t so much about graphics, but it kind of demonstrates how far design can go. The makers of Airborne reached a settlement in a case that is having them pay $23 million dollars for false advertising. Consumers can get a refund for Airborne purchased as far back as 2001, so long as they have their receipts.

“Airborne is basically an overpriced, run-of-the-mill vitamin pill that’s been cleverly, but deceptively, marketed.” –David Schardt (Center for Science in the Public Interest)
